New blog. New year. Is there a better way to start both that with a post including my New Year’s resolutions? Yes, but shut up, I’m going to do it anyway.
I don’t like New Year’s resolutions. Partly because I’m lazy, and partly because they tend to be trivial changes that I don’t have the motivation to keep up. That said, there are a few things I’d like to do/change in 2011:
1) Write more. I’ve been wanting to write my thoughts on various subjects for a while now, and despite reading a million and one people saying that the most important thing is to finish something, I still haven’t – I have another blog with about 4 half-written posts that may eventually see the light of day.
I’ve set myself a target of updating once a week – an impressive target for a one a day blog, I think – but I’d like to update a little more regularly when I don’t need a reminder and start ranting.
2) Stop procrastinating. I suspect this may end up being heavily linked to 1). I remember an occasion while at school where I spent hours trying to think up an excuse as to why I’d not done my homework. The homework that would have taken me a good 30 minutes. It’s a really stupid habit.
I’m hoping that the blog will help this to some extent; Meeting a deadline on a regular basis can only be a good thing, right?
3) Organise my business. I’ve been making websites for quite a while now, but I’ve never actually applied for any jobs. I’ve been lucky enough that people have come to me at occasions when I’ve just finished a job, but I don’t really feel like anywhere near ready to go freelance full-time. 2011 will be the year that I finally finish my own website and at least get prepared to look for work myself.
Look at that, a target. That will definitely happen in 2011. Even if I do leave it until mid-November.
Despite my horrific hangover, I will continue to drink in 2011. I will make every effort to improve the quality of these posts too. Unless I’m hungover, obviously.
